“Our life is what our thoughts make it.” ~ Marcus Aurelius

Last night, 2 am, I’m getting ready to go to bed and suddenly the novella I’ve been stuck on for the last almost two weeks came into clear focus. I had to force myself to go to bed rather than stay up all night working on it. I’ve got the story down now, I think, so I’ll be firing that off today. Yeah! What a relief! (Figures after I started a different story in my collaboration with Sasha White yesterday! ) But I’m not complaining! After my writer’s block it’s a happy day for me to have two stories on high boil at once!

As a reader, I’ve found a new author! Yeah! Gaelen Foley. I am having a fantastic time reading Devil Takes a Bride. If I weren’t so busy writing I would read the book completely through in one sitting. As it is I have to tear myself away from the book in order to get any work done. I’ll have to order her backlist next. Wow.

  1. I’ve often wondered how collaborative writing works - does one person devise a plot and the other devise the characters ? And how often do you communicate - do you get phone calls at 3am when the other person has an idea ? :D

  2. Well, in this particular instance we are writing two separate, novella length stories that together will become one full length novel. Each story could stand alone but the characters of both stories actually interact with each other and cross stories. The challenge is in taking another author’s character and keeping it in their voice while writing about them yourself. And also compromising. Some scenes have to match so you have to give a little and take a little and somehow not piss off your partner while remaining true to your own vision. A good partner is a must and I am lucky to have found one in Sasha. We communicate daily, either by e-mail or IM, sharing what we’ve written so far and ideas we may have.

:D No we don’t keep each other up at night! LOL We both have other stories that we’re working on that keeps us busy when we can’t get in touch. Stay tuned, Peter. I’ll be documenting the process (minus details for obvious reasons ;) ) in my blog and on the message board. This is going to be great!

  3. What? You mean I can’t call you at 3 am and make you play out a scene with me?

    Teasing! :hehe:

  4. I’ve only read two Gaelen Foley books by now, and I loved the hero in "Prince Charming"(super-sexy alert), and the heroine in "The Duke" was good. Now I’ll have to pick up "Devil…" because you are the fifth recommendation I’ve heard!
