Alison Kent’s blog featured some watercooler articles.
Anybody else get the impression that Edward Wyatt of the NYTimes doesn’t like romance novels all that much?
“Romance is not dead, but it may be suffering a slow death.“
“…traditional romance novels, those formulaic bodice-rippers stocked with hunky heroes and love-conquers-all endings.“
“Sold under the Harlequin and Silhouette imprints, the series have names - like Desire, Temptation, Bombshell and Blaze - that leave little about their content to the imagination.”
“The unfortunately named genre of chick lit often employs characters that are as stock as those in traditional romance: single women in their 20’s or 30’s, usually in an unpromising job and with a litany of relationship problems.“
Ouch, Mr. Wyatt.
I refuse to believe the romance genre is suffering a slow death. Period. :plain:

:hehe: Silly Edward. "formulaic bodice-rippers" Aren’t they cute when they slap on labels instead of doing the actual research? Over fifty percent of the market is NOT "dying a slow death." Check again, buddy. Not while we’re writing, it’s not.

:O
Sylvia=Bad!
First up–ST can’t even be lumped into the same catagory as Catagory! While they are both in the romance genre, ST & Catagory are as different as night and day! What is happening at Harlequin isn’t the same as what’s happening at ST publishers. Get the facts straight Edward!

LOL
Yes, I agree. Miss Moneypenny needs to get a bit more agressive! Lord knows I couldn’t pine away that long before taking the situation well in hand! *wink*

Colour me stupid, but last time I looked the Romance section was the biggest in the book store! and that doesn’t include the other genre’s that have STRONG romance sub plots… Hell even James bond has some romance, not much… but you keep wishing for Money Penny to get to him ~grin~
