I was very surprised to read on Lori Foster’s Message Board that the judges were only sending Lori two or three entries out of the 200+ that had been entered. Less than 30 entries will ever get to Lori. The odds, quite frankly, suck. I was even more surprised to hear Janice Maynard say that in her pile less than 1/2 of 1% were historical entries.
Hmmm… I love historical romanticas!! I wish there were more of them.

I’ve run RWA chapter contests before, and having 20 entries go to a finalist judge is WAY more than ever happens in those contests! Try 5 or 6, in my experience anyway! Besides, the cool part with Brava novellas is that you can write one and submit it straight to the editor without an agent, a query, or anything!
by Alison Kent August 24th, 2004 at 6:59 amYou’re right, of course, Alison! I didn’t even think of it that way, but in most contests there are only 3-5 finalists. I feel better all ready!
by Sylvia August 24th, 2004 at 9:01 amDon’t forget Kate takes unagented submissions. If you’re worried about the odds, just sub directly to her and dont worry about the contest.
Remember, there’s more than one way to skin zee kittie! :hehe:
by cece August 24th, 2004 at 10:49 amAck! Let’s not talk about skinning kitties! Unless, of course, the kitty in question is a psychotic freak who spooges on you…
