“Eureka! I’ve got it.” ~ Archimedes

Okay. I’m in the shower. Plot and scene ideas are shifting in my head, and I wonder, “Why do all these ideas come to me in the shower?” Then I consider it further and remember that when I’m at the gym, I also get a lot of great ideas.

So I’m wondering: Where are you/what are you doing when you start churning up story ideas? And when you’re stumped, does going to that place or performing that activity jump start your creative juices?

Count me on it too! It’s always when I’m falling asleep when the best ideas, dialogue and hooks come to my semi-fatigued mind. And it always disappears somewhat if I don’t get up and write it down at that moment!

Ideas seem to know when I’ve settled into a warm bath, and bam, there they are. Working on my art or playing The Sims usually kicks my brain into creative gear — both creative things, but don’t involve words.

Ditto on the falling asleep ideas routine :) Also whilst driving and travelling, especially long distances - when its impossible to write them down for ages. :P

My ideas also seem to form just before I’m about to drift off to sleep ow while I’m at my part-time job (I’m part of the signing crew at the Local J.C. Penney’s. I help swtich signs for the various sales and clearance merchandise.) I’ll be ticketing something or scanning something to check the price on it and my mind will go off wandering :hehe:

I’m with Larissa. Mine come just as I’m about to drift off to sleep then BAMMMM. No sleeping, just thinking.

I find if I haven’t been on the treadmill in a couple of days, my creativity is down. It’s also the only place where I can blast the music to my heart’s content…so I’d have to say it’s combo of music and excercize that get my stories flowing, since I play out the scenes in my mind to the music, like I’m writing a script. But, when I do the actual writing, I can’t listen to music because I tend to daydream. :hehe:

In bed! I have no idea why, but that’s where I usually plot my stories in my head! :)

Interesting, Sylvia. My best ideas come to me in the shower, or when I’m walking or riding my exercise bike. Like Sasha, I also find just-falling-asleep and just-waking-up to be very helpful thinking times, too. At these times ideas just seem to come out of nowhere. I am a subconscious writer… my subconscious does most of the work .

The shower is definitly a place where ideas grow! I also find that perfect time between asleep and awake to be a great idea place…but sometimes I fall completely asleep before I can write them down.
