Back to Work!

I spent most of today trying to figure out if it was returning from vacation or finaling in the Brava contest that had me feeling rather stoned–you know, dazed and confused. :hehe:

But the world goes round while I struggle to catch up, so I did a crit for one of my cp’s today (yummy hero! She teased me with bits and pieces of what was coming up past the part I was permitted to crit, but wouldn’t spill all. Sasha! )

And I went back to work on my revisions for my solicited story. I’m almost done, a couple chapters more. Then I’ll work on polishing my completed Brava entry, just in case Kate Duffy gives me a shot.

Before I left, we were discussing scenerios that we find ourselves in when we’re dreaming up storylines and scenes. Valerie mentioned driving as one of her thinking times and I have to agree with that one. All the way up to the lake and back down again, I considered scenes and plots. It was great fun. :)

Now the previous entry was a two part question:

1) What are you doing when ideas hit?
and
2) When you’re stumped (writer’s block) does doing those activities help jumpstart you out of that slump?

I haven’t tested it yet, but I do believe that if I got in the car for a long drive I could indeed think my way out of a slump. When I get the opportunity, I’ll let you know if it works! ;)

Do you know if it works?

I agree with that, Valerie! :)

Whenever I finish a good romance, I always find myself in the mood to write. I believe it’s because I get wrapped up in the joy of the story and the HEA. :P

  2. Valerie says:

Reading something completely new, for me, is the best way to kick start me. I get really fired up when I see another author at work.

The biggest kinks/blocks i get are when I take a gap in writing. It’s so hard to get back in, so I try to do a bit every day, even if only notes.

  3. Sylvia says:

    Thank you, Cece!!

And for #2, my cure is chocolate!! Lots of it. Yummy! :P

  4. cece says:

Climbing out of my mire of edit hell to say CONGRATULATIONS!!!! :P :D :P :D

    1. Any number of things. I LOVE to compose dialogue when i drive but then I get home and i cant remember it. I told my dad once it was like watching TV with the radio on. There’s alwasy something going on in the background. Once I cut 2 characters off at the kneecaps then had to take the kids to basketball practice. On the way home, the "bad guy" decided to call his wife and let her know he was on his way home. SHOCKED ME!! :O

    2. the only time I really get "blocked" anymore is um certain times of the month and it never fails. I allow myself to do whatever i want or can or need to.
