I haven’t done any work at all the last two days. A critique for a friend, that’s it. I should be feeling guilty, but I’m not. It’s been nice. I’ll be burning in edit hell soon enough, so why rush the inevitable?
I’m curious as to what you think of Simultaneous Submissions. Here’s an article to get you thinking and then share your opinion, please. This topic is very relevent to me right now and I’d like to get your feedback.
Thank you!

Do them! Life’s too short!
I say submit to both.
This ia a business. It is our careers. How many other jobs do you know of that have you sit around for months and wait to get turned down? To me, a submission is like a job interview. You don’t wait around months to hear if you have the job or not….at least not without going on more intereviews.
Ditto. I think it’s wrong of publishers to say that they won’t consider multiple submissions. I mean, I understand why they don’t–they have limited time and resources and don’t want to waste their time on something that someone else might already have picked up, etc.
However, writing IS a business, and authors are trying to earn a living. It’s stupid to have to wait a year or more to hear back from one publisher before you can submit to another!
HelenKay is right. A few years ago I tried submitting manuscripts to one house at a time– it took bloody forever. Submitting simultaneously is the only way to go.
I’ve done it, but when I did I felt enormously guilty LOL Mostly I try to stick by their rules, but the Kate Duffy comment is interesting!
I’m with Kate…..for all the reason she stated. It just takes too damned long. What’s meant to be is meant to be.
Thanks for the info, HelenKay! The project I’m thinking of would not be good for Kate or Red Dress, and has been solicted. But there’s another publisher I’m interested in. So I’m torn.
Sylvia - Kate Duffy was at a query workshop on Saturday. She said we’d be crazy not to do multiple submissions. Her point was that the process is too long and if she misses out on a project because she’s waiting around, then that’s her tough luck. She also said she doesn’t chat about submission with the folks at Red Dress so how would they ever know - she’s not telling
