Booksquare blogged the other day about historical accuracy in books. I have to say that I agreed with most of what was said, although I have no knowledge of the book being discussed.
In fiction, it is hard to weigh the real world (such as it is) against the fictional world. Things that happen in one sphere may not jibe with the other. This is why we think over-emphasis on historical detail sometimes gets in the way of the story.
I agree with that. In most romances if I get to a big chunk of narrative that describes historical events that have little or nothing to do with the progression of the romance, I just skip right past it. Anyone else do the same? Why or why not?
