Procrastination

I should have been writing today. Instead I built this blog. Then I goofed around with it all day, adding links and fixing up the sidebar to make it feel more like home. It was fun, but I should have gotten some writing done. :???:

But tomorrow hubby has to work in the morning so I’ll cram in some writing then. (I hope.)

Oh!!! And I got the coolest e-mail from the fabulous Gaelen Foley. She said, “I have just had a really good time reading a bunch of your stuff! I read all the historical excerpts. Fun, energetic writing with a smooth style and well-balanced premises. I think you’ll be going places, Sylvia!”

Now that made my day!

New Blog!

Welcome to WordPress!

Yes, I switched to a new blog. Why? Well, I love my Greymatter blog. I love the smilies and the layout. But I hate the rebuilds. They take forever. Also I want the option of having more than one blog–one for the real nitty gritty of the publishing process, one for books, one for whatever. With Wordpress I can have a ton of categories.

Last night, Cece was bemoaning the state of her blog powered by Blogger. She liked smilies and tried Greymatter, but Greymatter couldn’t import her archives. So I recommended Wordpress. Then I started thinking? I know how cool it is. Why wasn’t I using Wordpress :?:

Now this is just a test. I’ll have to hire my designer to fix the template to match my site if I decide to keep this blog. Not a big deal, but I’m rather attached to my Greymatter blog. But this thread on the Greymatter forums got me thinking.

If I decide to keep this blog, I’ll just change the url to match what you all have in your links so it won’t cause you any trouble.

When will I get any writing done with all of this blogging? Well, considering I won’t be held up by rebuilds, I might get even more accomplished.

(Oh and now my smilies match my message board!)

So what do you think? (Keep in mind that once Genevieve got done with it, it would be as gorgeous as the rest of my site.)

The Best Thing About Your Writing is…

It’s important, as a writer, to know what your strengths and weaknesses are. That way, you can edit out the bad while highlighting the good. So tell me, what are your strengths? What is the best thing about your writing? Of what are you most confident?

(I’ve listed my strengths in the previous entry.)

In the Mood

I am finally in the mood to work on my edits!!! :hehe:

When I first opened this particular ms, all I could see was the mistakes–changing POV’s, too much detail, lack of commas, use of modern words in a historical piece. All I could see ahead of me was torture!!

And then, somehow, my perception slowly changed over the last day or two. I started seeing all the things right with the ms, the things judges have praised–sparkling dialogue, lush descriptions, witty characters–and I fell in love with the story all over again. That’s what I needed to get in the mood, a love of my characters and their journey. I found that. I’m so glad. I’m enjoying the process, so much so that I’ve cut way back on my web time. I’m just not needing the distraction right now, absorbed as I am in this story.

Now… I’m still occasionally procrastinating–a tactic I use when I get stuck in a ms. Today and yesterday I filled my thinking time with site updates.

My favorite e-book author, Shelby Reed, released a new book today–Midnight Rose. It’s a vampire tale, her first, and I can’t wait to read it. She’s so good. I love her voice.

I also received my copy of Alison’s The Shaughnessey Accord. I’m excited about that. It’s a slender volume so I’ll be able to fit in during rewrites. Yummy SG-5!!! :P Thanks, Alison!

Your opinion, please…

I haven’t done any work at all the last two days. A critique for a friend, that’s it. I should be feeling guilty, but I’m not. It’s been nice. I’ll be burning in edit hell soon enough, so why rush the inevitable? :P

I’m curious as to what you think of Simultaneous Submissions. Here’s an article to get you thinking and then share your opinion, please. This topic is very relevent to me right now and I’d like to get your feedback. :) Thank you!

Romantic Times

Well, I’ve had my issue of Romantic Times since September 11th and it was only brought to my attention today by Cece (Thank you, Cece!), that my blog was featured in an article titled Cyber Diary in Romantic Times magazine (Oct. 2004, Issue #248, page 12). What a way to start my week! :hehe:
