It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas.

WORD Challenge = 32 pages edited, 26 pages paper edited

It snowed this morning. For some of you, this would be normal. This is not normal for the arid desert area of inland Southern California where I live. In fact, it is akin to hell freezing over and pigs flying. Hubby woke me up at 6 am to dazzle me. Then proceeded to take pictures, which you can view here and here.

I’m taking this as a good sign. The impossible can sometimes be possible.

And maybe, just maybe, I’ll be published.

Scrambling…

WORD Challenge = 14 pages edited

Ya know… this editing is taking way too long. 10 pages here, thirteen pages there. That’s how fast I write from scratch, not edit!! Editing should be much, much faster.

Now today I did get around to taking care of some things on my TO DO list, like mailing out long-overdue thank you cards, forwarding my sister’s mountainous pile of mail, and watching a movie rental we’ve had for almost a week. But still. I’m getting too distracted, which means my heart’s not in it. I feel like, instead of building a new space shuttle, I’m trying to retrofit Apollo 13!!!

If I can’t get it together tomorrow, I’ll print up a bunch of it and do some paper editing. For some reason, switching gears like that helps me get work done.

Ten days left in this month and 171 pages left to edit. I cannot put this off for another day. It must be done by Dec. 1st. I can do it, easily, if I could just pay attention!!

Gateway to the Rest… I’m a finalist!

WORD Challenge = 13 pages edited

UPDATE!!! 5:19PM
I’ve just been notified that Almost Too Much was selected as the Best of the Best Winner of the Golden Opportunity contest by Evan Fogelman of the Fogelman Literary Agency!

WOW!!
——————————
Seducing the Widow just finaled in the Gateway to the Rest contest!!

Okay, so… a little history.

STW is the second manuscript I sent to the Golden Opportunity, the one that placed 6th. But when I sent it to the Gateway to the Rest contest it had been reworked with the invaluable help of Sasha. I sent it to the contest in the hopes of getting some feedback on if the changes helped the pacing, which had been problematic. I think it’s safe to say that the changes helped!!

Kelly Harms at Avon is about to get another look at my ms. Only in this version of my Golden Opportunity winner, the hero and heroine have met before.

So huge hugs and gratitude to Sasha for her help and to Cece for notifying me (since the contest coordinator sent out a listserv announcement instead of calling me. :???: )

Cheating

WORD Challenge = 0 / other ms = 52 pages of paper edits and wrote 3 page synopsis

Well, I cheated. At least I did in my opinion. I’m supposed to be working on the edits for one manuscript, but I switched gears today and did paper edits on another ms that has to be ready by the end of the month too.

Since this other ms has been heavily critted already and spit-shined polished, I kinda just let it fall by the wayside. But the paper edits did catch a couple of minor things and I still needed to write a good synopsis for the story since my old one was written before I studied the art of writing the synopsis.

So while I’m even further behind on my WORD goals than I was this morning, I still feel as if I accomplished a lot today. Who said cheaters never win?

Making a plan

WORD Challenge = 11 pages edited

I’ve decided I need to come up with a better plan for getting these edits done.

I’m looking forward to December when I can finally relax and just chill out for a while. (Odd how it feels like I’m always saying that and yet it never seems to happen. )

Productivity

WORD Challenge = 49 pages of paper edits, 3 pages edited, 3 pages written from scratch

I made it to the gym for the first time in over a month. I have a gym buddy who watches my kids when I go, then I watch her kids while she goes.

She couldn’t work out for the last several weeks. Her sister is infertile and so my friend has been on hormones to donate her eggs.

I feel for women who have trouble having children, I really do. I hope my friend’s sister gets pregnant. I have my fingers crossed for her.

Part of my latest book shipment arrived today: Secrets of a Summer Night by Lisa Kleypas and Houston We Have a Problem by Erin McCarthy. Secrets Vol. 10 is on it’s way.

I’m a glutton for punishment. My TBR pile grows taller by the day, but I’m stuck in editing hell and I dare not pick up a book or I’ll never get done in time.
