I am very proud to say that my first contract was for 3 historicals. Although I write futuristics, historicals have always been my first love. :grin: Of course the bright side is that as the huge historical authors switch their focus to contemps it leaves room for up and coming historical writers. I understand about the not so famous historical romance authors branching out into other genres to gain more recognition, but when Lisa-EFFING-Kleypas does it!? The world is ending!! *G* But seriously, I heard last year, at the RWA convention, that Kleypas was told to lighten her historicals up because darker historicals aren't as popular as they used to be.
