The controversy over e-pubbed vs. print pubbed? I don’t know and I dropped out of the discussion long ago. I don’t express my views well and often come across as diva-ish when I try, so it’s best I keep my mouth shut about the subject. However, Ellen posted a link and reply to this post (now deleted) that says,
“I view e-pubbed and self-pubbed books as the second class citizens of the publishing world.”
If you go read zippy_gigglet’s post, I do ask that you not flame her. She freely admits that this is simply her opinion and she has a right to it. You have a right to your opinion too, just be gentle with it. *g* Please.

I think there are benefits to both. Epublishers pay monthly. If you sell to a traditional publisher, you might get a tiny advance and then no money for 2 years. From a cash flow perspective, I like having ebooks out there right now! The optimum would be to have some traditional print books in the works for future payoff, but I can’t see quitting what I’m doing now because I love it. And Ellora’s Cave is really the best of both worlds, with ebook and print editions.
Of course, I don’t think print vs. pubbed is based on how writers get paid, but you know, there will ALWAYS be somebody out there saying your work doesn’t count, no matter what you write or who publishes it. They’re entitled to their opinion but it won’t change what I do!
I agree w/Sasha…and like I said on Kate’s blog, there are good and bad books published (and good and bad publishers) in print and e-book format. Just like there are good and bad movies put out by major movie companies and small independents (Napoleon Dynaminte anyone?

Oh. . . and as for e-publishing vs. print. I was pubbed in print well before I considered ePublishing. But I feel epublishing is where I want to be right now. I think everyone should make their own choices about what’s right for them, and their stories.
Sylvia~ I think you do very well articulating yourself in your posts, and in a full conversation. I think sometimes it’s the one-liners that people misunderstand or take the wrong way. (And that happens with all of us, not just you.) I, myself, admit to misunderstanding, or getting pissed at something I feel you’ve IMPLIED before. But then again, I ASK you what you mean when you say something I take offense to. I think communication is important. Especially over a medium like the Internet, where tone of voice and inflection can’t be heard. Don’t censor yourself, if people take what you say wrong, they should ask for clarification.
I honestly feel there’s room for both. And that’s really all I have to say on it. Well, no, I could say more but it would all come back to that one line.
Shannon, I’m with you on the print and e-pub sales. That would be like cake with icing.:mrgreen:
I’d obviously be lying if I said I don’t want to be published in print, but I want to be published in both. Ideally, I’d love to have a couple of print books and several ebooks a year.
If only I could get my family to go live with some other nice, non-writing lady.

For the record, CATCHING CAROLINE was sold to a print publisher first, so it definitely was “good enough” for print. Obviously, all e-books are not print publisher cast offs.
Like Angela Knight, MaryJanice Davidson, and a host of other cross-medium authors, I’m rather proud of being published in both formats.
I didn’t respond either. I’ve gotta say it hurt just a bit being referred to as a second-class citizen, but who has the energy to engage in a verbal fencing match with somebody who thinks of herself as zippy_giglet?

Aside from being unmannerly, flaming doesn’t do any good anyway; it just makes the flamer look defensive. Not a good thing:-).
I don’t know why you say you don’t express your views well, though, Sylvia. Your posts are always extremely articulate; that’s why I read your blog!
