Hi.
I’ve been considering the purpose of my blog for weeks now, whether I wish to continue it or not. When I first mentioned this thought to Sasha she said, “Why are you thinking about getting rid of it?”. The answer is, it doesn’t have a focus. When I started the blog it was a way to document my road to publication, as many aspiring authors do. Then it became a place to network. In both instances it was a joy to me and the need to blog was an everyday, sometimes multiple times a day, urge. Before I bought my laptop, when I’d be on vacation I’d miss blogging so much. Nowadays, it’s more of something I sit down and check off my to do list. I think this shows in the blog itself and I’m very sorry about that.
Also the idea of having a site that is more about my books and less about me is very appealing. I used to wonder at Lisa Kleypas’s site, which has no Contact page and until recently didn’t even have a mailing list. The only way to reach her was through the Avon Authors message board and through her agent. But now the idea of that kind of detachment seems really nice in a way.
However, since I have a couple blog skins in the works, now would not be the time to get rid of the blog.
So you all will have to put up with me a little while longer.
But for how much longer, I don’t know.

Eek!
Everybody got me hooked on blogging and bloghopping, now everybody’s reconsidering having one.
This is just like the time I joined the volleyball team.
(Yours is still one of my favorites, and a daily auto-stop)
by Shannon April 27th, 2005 at 10:46 amAre there others who are contemplating getting rid of their blogs? That is interesting. I didn’t know that.
Thank you for stopping by everyday, Shannon, and saying it’s one of your favorites.
That made my day.
by SylviaI ditto Shannon. If it’s too much, go every other day but don’t stop!
by HelenKay April 27th, 2005 at 10:53 amSylvia, the focus of your blog is *you* and that’s why we all come to read it!
Please don’t go the impersonal, just about the books route with your website! That style is so off putting and unfriendly seeming. If I find one like that, I rarely visit twice, but a site like yours with a warm friendly personality shining through, esp. in your blog, is infinitely ’sticky’!
Just my humble opinion…
by Wendywoo April 27th, 2005 at 11:38 amFocus? Who needs bloody focus?
by kate -- again?? April 27th, 2005 at 12:33 pmYour blog is one of my stops daily, and I love reading your entries and the comments to them as well.
by Gina April 27th, 2005 at 1:49 pmOn one hand, I enjoy your blog, but on the other, the majority of readers–the average non-internet savvy reader–really don’t visit author websites, or read and comment on their blogs. The majority of comments come from other authors and internet savvy readers.
I say, keep your blog separate from your website. I was also indignant when I first visited my favorite author’s websites to see that they weren’t updating it everyday, or at least once a week–only when something important was happening–until I realized that it’s about the books. If a non-internet savvy reader decides to follow that link on the back page, it’s mainly to see the other books you’ve written. They might read the bio, like the pictures, maybe dash off a quick note, but other than that, I don’t think that the average reader “cares” about their favorite author outside of their works.
by Evangeline April 27th, 2005 at 1:55 pmAddendum–some authors like Lisa Kleypas and Cathy Maxwell include warm, friendly “letters” on their home page at the beginning of each season(winter, spring, fall, summer) to keep their fans updated on their life and their writing. If you did move your blog somewhere else, that’d be a neat thing to have on your website.
by Evangeline April 27th, 2005 at 2:04 pmI don’t get out on the blogs as much as I used to but I’ve always enjoyed reading yours. If you left us I’d miss you. But it’s a decision only you can truly make. And whatever it may be, I respect it. May not like it but I respect it. But I like what others have suggested.
by Teresa April 27th, 2005 at 5:22 pmI second Wendy’s comment. *You* are the focus of your blog, and the reason I keep coming back. I’m glad you’re sticking around for a while, but if you choose to stop in the future, I’ll have to resepct it.
by Lynn April 28th, 2005 at 10:48 amWell, nuts. I like your blog! I’d miss it. But I also understand that there’s only so much energy and time to go around.
