E-Book readers :cafe: and Print readers  . They’re very different creatures. In my limited experience, staunch print readers aren’t always inclinded to buy e-books and sometimes even seem resistant to them, while staunch e-book readers usually read a lot of print too. It was my expectation of reaching a whole different audience that led me to consider e-publishing, as well as my desire to write books in the paranormal and futuristic sub-genres.
The promotion for e-books is not like the promotion for print books, and readers who read almost primarily e-books are very different to interact with than the print readers. Also I’ve been told by other e-book/print writers that the crossover is very low.
For me, crossover won’t come into play much. My straight historicals are nothing like my paranormals or my futuristics, so I’ll have two audiences with two different promotional needs. My site will eventually have to reflect two faces.
I meant to blog a lot but I’m tired, so this ramble will have to do.

Sylvia. I think you’re right about not being a lot of cross over. While I think you can download really out of the box interesting books in ebook style, I have one problem with them. (though I have downloaded some). I don’t like to read them on the screens. I tried reading them on my Palm and had to increase the font for my 40 something eyes. Then I had to scroll down ALL the time. It was hard to focus on which line I was on after I scrolled. I didn’t enjoy holding my hot laptop in my lap to curl up with the book. And I sit at my computer way too much as it is. Can’t read the ebooks in the tub…my favorite place to read.
So even though I have read ebooks, I just don’t enjoy the Method of reading them…not that I dont enjoy the books. Know what I mean? Maybe if I didn’t have reading glasses and could see the print better. I don’t know. There are so many interesting ebooks out there…
Next I’m thinking of using one of the voice readers on the computer (have a program that reads text). Then I could listen while I do stuff around the house. Kind of like “books on tape.”

What Kacey said. (Especially about tub-reading!) My 19″ monitor is hard enough on the eyes. I can’t deal with a reader - and I have an iPaq and a Rocketbook both. No can do for these over 40 eyes.

I love my e-book reader. You can change the font on it to a bit larger, but I’m not quite sure how that would work with the reading. I definitely wouldn’t bother if I had to sit at the computer to read. And the Palms are too small. I could take my ebook into the bathtub, but I’d want to lean over the side.
I definitely haven’t found a lot of cross over, although I think that has more to do with my choice of genres than anything.

I use an eBookman and I’m very happy with it. I bought a HUGE memory chip for it so I have a TON of books on there. I love how I can travel with something so small and in actuality be carrying 100 books with me.
