Ya know. *g* I’m not so worried about them anymore. My hubby brought home Not Just for Tonight, and the first story (written by the fabulous Susan Johnson) has the heroine witnessing intercourse between the hero and another woman. (this is a historical set in 1889) This act of voyeurism so incites her that once the other woman leaves, she spends the rest of the night with the hero. It was well-written, and the hero likeable, but I admit to being surprised by the scenario and dialogue such as when the hero departs to find condoms and returns in new clothes, he tells that heroine that he washed up so as not to offend her.
Anyway, this is one of the reasons I love writing for Kate Duffy and Brava–being able to go places that I’m not seeing other imprints go.
All right, back to work for me.

This is great timing because I was worried about one of my stories not being well received. It’s baby aspirn compared to this and I feel much better. But I’m also feeling that I might need to check out this book.
by Teresa August 26th, 2005 at 9:42 amI almost picked that book up the other day. I have to read Strangers in the Night first.
by Jordan August 26th, 2005 at 12:08 pmI love Susan Johnson! She’s always broken rules and tackled taboo subjects head on though. I think the earliest book I’ve read was from the early 80’s and parts of that had my eyebrows on the top of my head! LOL Her research is usually immaculate. Condoms were around then, but depending on where it’s set might be called Sheath or somesuch other euphemism.
by saskia August 26th, 2005 at 12:38 pmI never take anyone to task over their research, even when I notice it’s faulty.
I am not the greatest researcher myself, I freely admit. A lack I’m sure will come back to haunt me. :shifty: A great fear of mine, truth be told.
Susan, however, is known for her research and footnotes.
by SylviaAgreed! It’s SO easy to make mistakes and let things slip through, but at the end of the day we’re all dealing with fictional worlds so I don’t think any of us should get too up tight about it. I studied cultural history for years and worked in galleries and museums (similar to SJs background) but I’m completely knocked back by the backbone of research in her historicals. I occasionally write historical/alternate historical and I think it’s bad for my health because (like you) I stress so much about it! LOL
by saskia August 26th, 2005 at 1:31 pmThat is so sweet that your hubby brought you home that book!
by Danica August 26th, 2005 at 1:59 pmI’m a sucker for Brava historicals.
