Well, my proofs look like actual photocopies of each individual page of the book, with my name and book title in the header (on alternating pages) and the page numbers. It starts out with the title page and has everything–copyright page, acknowledgments, even the excerpts of other author’s books in the back.
I have to go through each individual page and look for typos. If I find any, I can either mark it on the page or email the correction or fax the correction. The proof is mine to keep.

That must be such an amazing feeling. I didn’t know that you could keep them once you proofed them. That’ll really be something to look back on years from now when you’re on top of all the bestseller lists.
Congrats!
