Introducing the Women of Allure, pt. 2

Meet Allure Author Delilah Devlin and her latest story… Fated Mates. The book just received 4.5 stars and “Top Pick” from Romantic Times in their December issue.

Enjoy the excerpt!!

So, that’s what Kronaki warriors look like!

Every story ever whispered about the fearsome warriors came rushing back to set Mora’s body trembling. How they fought like ravaging beasts, cutting bloody swaths through Graktilian mercenaries during the war. How they lived in rough, stone fortresses made of blocks carved from their frozen mountains. How they fostered their children to rival clans so they would be raised without gentleness.

How they fucked with such fury their women’s screams echoed throughout their valleys.

Mora felt a tremor rumble beneath the polished, marble floor of the great hall, so explosive was the swell of conversation that arose at the warriors’ arrival.

They were seven, dressed in furs and leather, armed with bows slung across their shoulders and scabbards at their sides.

She couldn’t drag her gaze from the man at the head of their formation, striding toward her—her husband in name, if not yet by deed. Although she had never seen him before this day, she knew it must be him, for he looked the fiercest, the strongest—only one such as he would be chosen to rule from amongst their ranks.

He was from a race of barbarians, seemingly as proud of their reputation for brutal warfare as their orgiastic sexuality. The latter, Mora could well believe for the man stalking her now looked every inch a sensual marauder.

A shiver of awe bit the base of her spine and trembled upward until the fine hairs on the back of her neck stood erect.

Introducing the Women of Allure, pt. 1

Meet Allure Author Cathryn Fox and her latest story… Unleashed.

Enjoy the excerpt!!

This had to be some sort of joke.

Paranormal task force agent Jace Garret avoided psychics like the plague, and the last thing he wanted was to join forces with one. He’d rather solicit the help of an Ebola-ridden monkey than team up with the infamous Skylar Bray. It wasn’t that he questioned her tracking abilities or feared she’d botch his surveillance.

Oh no, those weren’t his reasons at all.

If she discovered the secret he’d been hiding for the last thirty-one years, he’d go down faster than a two-dollar whore. Like a caged panther, he paced around his captain’s office, his rubber soles squeaking on the polished tile floor. The throbbing in his head began beating a steady rhythm with each heavy footstep.

“Forget it, Captain, I won’t do it.” Jace gave a quick disgruntled shake of his head. “And I don’t give a shit how good you say she is. I don’t need her help.” He clenched his jaw and scrubbed a hand over the day-old growth speckling his face. “I can track this werewolf on my own, and you damn well know it.” Jace slammed a manila file onto Captain Mike Sanders’ desk and continued to glare at him.

Defying gravity, Sanders was leaning back in his seat. The chair legs teetering under his heavy weight. Drumming his meaty fingers on the wooden armrest, he planted his rather large feet on his desk, and met his gaze straight on. “Listen, Jace…”

Even earlier tonight than before

But I am writing, very slowly. It’s hard when you have a sinus headache that won’t quit, but baby steps :baby: are still steps. Right?

I’ll be chatting in the Author’s Grill at Romance at Heart at 9pm Eastern Time on Friday, October 28th.

My chats are just that, chats about books and movies and other fun things. I hope you’ll stop by.

It’s early for me

…but since I’m sick, I’m heading off to bed. When I was at the grocery store tonight, I’d hoped to find a new book to read, but I wasn’t interested in any of the books they had there. Hubby brought me home a new bestselling antho the other day, and I can’t get into it. Lately, I’ve noticed that the beginnings of most books are boring the hell out of me. Jordan asked once about what people did when a book wasn’t hooking them. I told her I skip to the middle and hope things are moving along from there. If the middle sucks, I’ll read the end to see if that’s worth laboring toward. If it is, I’ll try to read the book. If it’s not, I give it to my mom so she can read it and tell me how blah it was. *sigh*

I just really love books that grab you by the throat from the very beginning and then you just can’t put them down. I find them very hard to find though. I don’t pick up many books by writers I’m familiar with anymore, and I’ve spent more money on new-to-me authors lately, but not many of them are doing it for me. Some of these new authors are very popular and so I ask people I trust,”Is it just me, or is this a really great premise with not a lot of sparkle?” Often, they agree. What does that mean? Does the “high-concept” sell more than the actual writing?

Maybe I’m just burnt out.

I miss those books that make me all tingly. My all-time favorite, Lisa Kleypas, didn’t quite do it for me with her last book (I even have her out of print Onyx books, and all of her titles are keepers for me), but I hear her latest is great. I think I’ll go to BN tomorrow and pick up, then lay in bed and read. This cold is kicking my butt and I could really use a great book.
