I have three stories open on my desktop right now, and I’m bouncing back and forth between them. This was my writing approach prior to being published and it appears this is the way I’m most productive. I’m not sure why I have to switch, but I do know that instead of being stumped for days on one ms, I can work on another and my subconscious works out the stuck ms in the process.
For example I can be totally stuck in my historical. If I sit here and try to puzzle it out, it could take days. Or I can open my futuristic and work on that. Within an hour or two, the solution to my historical stopage will come to mind and I can go back to working on that.
It increases my productivity. I write more pages when I’m switching between stories than I do when I try to limit myself to one. :cafe: However, I’m not sure this is the way a career-focused author can write and still meet deadlines. ![]()

Prologue
Zagros Mountains in the Kingdom of Iraq 1924
Harry Taylor brushed his hat against his dust-crusted trousers and knelt in front of the sarcophagus. Pry bar in hand, he paused. Within the heavy coffin lay the culmination of five years searching, studying and digging in the driest of deserts near the base of the Zagros Mountains.
“Are you going to open it, or what?” William Prater, Harry’s assistant and friend, stood on the other side of the stone platform, sand and sweat streaking his blond devil-may-care looks. “Whatever you do, hurry it up. You never know when those tomb guards will show again.”
“Or the meddling British, for that matter. Give me a hand with this thing.” Harry jammed the pry bar between the lid and the casing and leaned hard on it. A crunching, scraping noise accompanied the incremental movement of the cover as it rasped across the top, revealing the treasure within.
I think this is too cool!! ![]()

UNEDITED EXCERPT
A great wind blew through the jungle, shaking trees and ripping leaves from the quivering branches. The sound of the screaming wind drowned out the deep mewls coming sporadically from the beast writhing on the forest floor. Leaves, sticks, and debris swirled around in a large dust devil.
Just as quick as the wind erupted, it died. Eerie silence encased the jungle. No other animal stirred in the surrounding trees or the low dirt burrows. Time stood still for a few brief moments.
Movement from the shadows disturbed the air and the scattered leaves on the ground.
A form crawled into a ray of light. It no longer a beast with midnight fur and yellow glowing eyes, but a man. Stretching out his rangy limbs, he stood. His long black hair was sweat-soaked and he pushed it back from a sharp angular face. Eyes that still glowed amber searched the jungle with a keen awareness.
Taking a step forward, his lean muscular body rippled with the effort. Sweat dripped down the golden skin of his defined chest past his naval and into the dark coarse hair between his powerful legs. Two jagged black markings, like lightening bolts, lined his hips on either side, diagonally swooping down to a point just above his groin.
He was as sleek and powerful as the black jaguar, a warrior protecting his land.

Kensington Gets Kinky With Aphrodisia
by Rachel Deahl, PW Daily — 10/28/2005
Kensington Books is launching a new imprint to bring “erotic romance” to consumers on a bimonthly basis. Dubbed Aphrodisia, the imprint will launch with four books priced at $12.95 and $13.95. The impetus for Aphrodisia came about, according to v-p and publisher Laurie Parkin, out of a recognition that a number of erotic stories which first appeared online were making it into the retail market. Referring to the success of Kensington’s Brava imprint, which, she says, attracted new readers by upping the “level of sensuality and mix of new and bestselling authors,” Parkin hopes that Aphrodisia will proceed in much the same way.
The imprint will include an e-book component that will let consumer purchase Aphrodisia titles discreetly. The e-books, which will be sold through kensingtonbooks.com and aphrodisiabooks.com, will also have lower price points at $6.99 and $8.99.

He’d done it! “William, my friend,” he said in a reverent whisper, “we’ve found the tomb of Vashti, daughter of Azhi, the Devil Shah of ancient Persia.”
