Tomorrow I’ll be having High Tea at The McCharles House with some of the other Ellora’s Cave So. California authors and visiting out-of-town editor. It will be my first High Tea and I’m really looking forward to it, both for the company (I’ve loved every EC author I’ve ever had the fortune to meet) and for the experience.
Yesterday, as I drove my kids out to go to lunch (and to stop by the bookstore to hunt for the Feb. RT), I looked around at the other cars and drivers, and thought, “These people could care less if there’s a new issue of RT out or not.” And here I was (no longer) thinking desperately about what the review said. It made me realize again that I worry about things that are small fish in the big ocean of the world. It’s hard sometimes to remember because our seats at the computer and our online writing world is such a self-contained fish bowl. At least it seems that way to me.
I’m still working my way toward the end of this book, which has literally given me gray hair. I love it, don’t get me wrong, and I think my love for the characters shows. But it’s been draining. Partly because of the story. Partly because I’ve been doing promo for my other books at the same time. It’s hard (for me) to switch focus between writing the new while promoting the old. Two different parts of the brain at work, I think. And the new year is coming up and I need to get irons in the fire for that, too.
But first, High Tea. ![]()

Have fun at High Tea, Sylvia. Sounds wonderful.

by Vivi Anna December 29th, 2005 at 12:39 pmHigh Tea is so much fun. I’ve managed to go four times, including the Ritz in London off Jermyn street. Lovely, lovely, lovely. You’re going to have a blast.
by Jordan December 29th, 2005 at 4:54 pmYou’ll have fun, Sylvia! I adore having a high tea. It’s such an English thing to do. I’ve done the Ritz, too. Wow, was that an experience and a half.
