New Procrastination Tool!

Oh man… it’s probably been around forever, but I just found Library Thing. I just started adding my library to this. It will take me a long time to get to the point where all of my books are listed there, but I’m working on it.

It’s a great distraction when you need one. Or when you don’t… ;)

Class Pet

My son was Student of the Week last week, an honor that meant the entire week was about him. He got to show and tell everyday, and was given special treatment. He had a “things about me” chart up at the front of the class and today he was able to bring home the class pet for the weekend–Rosie, the hamster.

Rosie, who normally is a night owl, ran herself ragged in my house today, rolling all over the downstairs in her plastic running ball. She was a non-stop rolling machine and my children had a blast following her around the house.

I’ll snap a picture of her this weekend, so you can see how cute she is. :d

Good Review News

…just when I needed it. After feeling a bit raw about reviews, it was wonderful to get an email today from a reviewer who’d just finished reading the ARC of ASK FOR IT. She called it PHENOMENAL (all caps hers). :d Such a relief. She’s the first reader outside my cps and editor who has read the book. I was so nervous waiting to hear from someone. A bit of a nail-biter since readers liked BAD BOYS AHOY! so much, which I wrote well over a year after I wrote ASK FOR IT. Those of you who are writers know how much you can grow in ability over the course of a year. Also ASK FOR IT is my first ms ever. So there’s the added pressure of releasing something that was your first dabble ever into writing.

Anyway, so happy and relieved she enjoyed it so much. She got the ARC yesterday and wrote this morning so she must have read it straight through. Wow.

In not-so-good review news, another reviewer contacted me via the review coordinator to tell me that her package arrived torn, retaped, and missing the ARC that was supposed to be inside. WTF? I told my mom today that I must have postal/shipping bad karma or something. What is it with people ripping open my packages? My last two shipments of coverflats from Kensington came to me ripped open at the corner, like they wanted to see what was inside it. *grumbles*

Anything good new with you?

Something I learned that I’m glad I did

Being able to cut out information at the start of a story. The reader doesn’t get to know everything all at once, and if it takes several chapters to learn why someone is the way they are, it’s more fun. When appropriate. I like it that I can have my cp tell me I don’t need to mention that yet, and I can cut it out and not feel tortured over it. And I love it when a reader tells me they have no idea why something happened the way it did, but they can’t wait to keep reading and find out!

I used to think, “But you’ll understand them better if you know this!” and often, that’s true. But do we ever really know a person completely within a few minutes of meeting them?

Anyway, I’m probably rambling, but it’s late and I’m super tired, and I had a rough day. So I hope you’ll forgive me! (f)

BTW, the smilies look pretty cool in FireFox, but they look like crap in IE. If you’re not using FF yet, you should switch!! It’s a fabulous browser with so many more choices in the right-click menu. And the tabbed browsing just rocks. (Sorry, geek moment. Told ya I was tired…)

I’m not sure…

…where the idea came from for the story I’m working on now. But it’s a bit odd.

What’s the oddest story you’ve ever read or written? Maybe an oddball hero? Or setting? Doesn’t have to be odd in the funny sense. Mine isn’t. Just something different that you don’t see everyday.
