HarperCollins offers a program called First Look:
Join HarperCollins First Look, a program to preview books in literary fiction, general fiction, suspense, biography, cookbooks, and other genres, with readers who make a difference – you!
Each month, Advanced Reading Editions (AREs) of great books by fabulous authors are offered that you will have the opportunity to review. Reviewers are selected at random, but you must enter the program to be eligible. In joining the program you may select your favorite genres and we will let you know when a book in your preferred category is offered.
A month ago, they offered a first look of PARLOR GAMES, which doesn’t release until June. If you sign up, maybe you’ll get a sneak peak at one of my books. 
Wouldn’t be bad to get a free book, eh?

First, Amazon Connect and Plogs. Then came Amazon Forums. Then Amazon Product Wikis. Now they have this lovely little feature:

Do I really want to know that only 6% of the people who visit the BBA page actually buy it? I have NO idea if this a compliation of sales since the book began shipping, or if it’s updated daily (therefore, one could hope the other 94% of people already bought the book. :rofl: Yeah, I know. That’s ridiculous. But I’m pretty sure BBA and BBB did better back in Feb.)
In any case, it’s depressing.
