Working it

I’m wrapping up my Avon novella, and it’s moving along smoothly. It’ll go over word count, like most of my novellas do, but not by too much. I’ve only done one other anthology that features various authors and it’s not out yet. I can’t wait to see them in print though. Don’t know why. I guess maybe because it’s something new for me. :)

Today I went through my loops and turned most of them off. A few are left on Daily Digest, but only a couple are on Individual mail. My inbox is a joke at the moment, with 10,082 unread pieces of mail. I’m sure there’s lots of great stuff in there. Emails from friends or fans, maybe. I know I’ve won the International Lottery many times over. *g*

There are a lot of writers out there who are really, really great about keeping up with loops, writing lots of great books, and still having a life. I’m envious, truly. It’s a juggling skill I don’t have. Today, with the kids out with my mom, hubby out with the guys, and my inbox quiet, I got a lot of writing done and enjoyed it, too. And that’s what I’m going to need over the next few months while I’m writing these books. :)

So, enough about me, what about you? Anything neat or excited going on in your life? I’d love to see a new bookcover, if someone’s got one. Or hear about a great book you just read.

Free!

Kinda. *g*

Galleys went out today. They’re due in NY tomorrow. I think I sent close to 1/4 of the ms back with errors/corrections. *fingers crossed* it all gets worked out. It was a lot. Starting out with the dedication, where my mother’s last name (also MY last name) was spelled incorrectly, all the way through to the second to the last page.

I also sent back some contracts, and now must finish up the first Avon novella before the May 1st deadline. Then I have to finish MY IMMORTAL, which I’d hoped to have done by April 1st, but didn’t happen, and then write my fourth Brava. Both the Avon and Brava are due in Aug.

Completely unrelated is my FedEx fiasco. I hate FedEx. I really, really do. My experiences with them have not been good. Most recently, a package was due to arrive Monday. The online tracking said it was “out for delivery”. The box never arrived. A check before bedtime showed that the box was returned to the depot. I emailed and asked WTF? They replied that the box had to be inspected for damage and then they would deliver it that day. It didn’t arrive. I emailed again. Wed. morning they replied that the box was undamaged and would reach me that day. Sure enough, they deliver it. I open it up, and find that the contents–papergoods–have apparently been dropped into a muddy puddle and then repackaged in a new box. A quick view at the mailing label shows that it was exacto-knifed off the original box and then taped to a new one.

Can you believe that? Oh man… FedEx got an earful from me. :whip: Now, I’m working on the seller replacing the contents. They chose the carrier, not me. I’ve avoided FedEx like the plague for many years. I’m just AMAZED that they would deliver a soupy, muddy mess of papers repackaged in a new box. What the hell did they think I was going to do? Nothing? Shoddy, shoddy service. Always. They’ve always been dreadful. Apparently they’ve regressed to outright crap.

I’m Back!

Celebrate Romance was fun.

I arrived Friday with mom and kids in tow. Signed in, peaked in the door of the room where the other guests were, and then hightailed it to my room. Scary. I’m shy, and seeing all those people in there scared the crap out of me. So, we went to dinner in the restaurant instead, and the food was yummy, the company was (of course) superb, and I had a great time.

Saturday, I slept in (on purpose) then took my family back down for breakfast where I ran into some of my sister EC authors perusing the book tables. This made me feel much better instantly. Mom and kiddies went to the indoor pool for the day and I hung out at the conference. The day ended early, around 4 PM, so my family piled into the Suburban and we went to the Queen Mary pier where they have lots of shops and restaurants.

Sunday, the kids went back to the pool with mom. I joined the CR’s for breakfast and the booksigning (where BBA sold out! :yay: Also sold some copies of SEX ON HOLIDAY. :cheer: ) Talked to a bunch of old and new aquaintances. It was relaxing and fun. A very casual conference, which was great. Kind of a mini-vacation for me. :) There were some pics taken by the other gals, so when I get those, I’ll post them. I, sadly, never got around to taking my camera out, even though it was always with me.

Now, I’m home working on galleys for ASK FOR IT. These are the worst galleys I’ve yet run across. There are actually whole paragraphs missing. I don’t know how the heck this happened, but the mistakes are both plentiful and massive. So, I’m in the cave, working on them like mad, hoping like hell the errors get fixed.
