Last year I posted a few links from around the web about how little the Quill Awards appeared to be accomplishing. For the second annual Quills, it appears little has changed.
From Publisher’s Lunch:
AP reporter Hillel Italie remains dubious [about the Quills]: Created “in an attempt to make publishing awards more glamorous and accessible, the Quills so far have attracted little attention beyond the publishing industry, with virtually no sales impact for nominated books. Comscore Networks, Inc., an Internet research firm that monitors Web traffic, was unable to compile any numbers on visits to the Quills links, saying low traffic was the likely reason. Even several publishers attending Tuesday night’s ceremony acknowledged not voting, among them Alfred A. Knopf head Sonny Mehta.”
A number of presenters (including celebrities) stumbled in reading their Teleprompter remarks. Donald Trump actually silenced himself, leaving co-author Robert Kiyosaki to read both their parts and misfire in his ad lib. Trump’s one remark came before announcing the winner in the business category: “No winner is here tonight, so why should this be any different.” (The business winners were there after all.)
