Protector of the Flight

Protector Of The FlightPROTECTOR OF THE FLIGHT
by Robin D. Owens
Luna
ISBN: 0373802641
February 1, 2007

PUBLISHER’S WEEKLY:

Fans of Anne McCaffrey and Mercedes Lackey will appreciate the novel’s honorable protagonists and their lively animal companions.

The Story:

If horses could fly…

Then Calli Torcher might ride again. But a devastating accident left her in such pain, she thought the chimes and chanting in her ears were a hallucination…until she found herself transported to another world, and met the Lladranans who had Summoned her.

Lladrana was a parallel, magical earth filled with exotic creatures, noble humans and magic– all threatened by an encroaching evil.

And when the might volarans stopped obeying the Chevaliers, the flying horses’ unexpected rebellion had thrown Lladrana into an uproar. In desperation, the sorcerers had sought help from afar - and gotten Calli. If she could fulfill this mission perhaps she would also finally find all she had longed for – a mate, a home, a family. But against this great darkness she had no battle experience, no strategy plans. She had only a bond with horses…

ABOUT ROBIN D. OWENS

Robin D. Owens has been writing longer than she cares to recall. Her fantasy/futuristic romances finally found a home at Berkley with the issuance of HeartMate in December 2001. She credits the telepathic cat with attitude in selling that book. Since then, Heart Thief was a launch book for Berkley Sensation in June 2003, Heart Duel was published in 2004, Heart Choice in 2005, and Heart Quest in 2006. Her Luna Books series includes shape-shifting fairies and average American women Summoned into another world to fight monstrous evil.

REVIEWS

ROMANTIC TIMES: Owens has an easy and engaging writing style which, when combined with her intriguing characters and interesting setting, makes for a fast and compelling read.

HUNTRESS REVIEWS: This is among the most joyful series of novels in any genre…when the ending page arrives, YOU feel the Snap, pulling you reluctantly back to the real world. Ms. Owens has mastered characterization, interweaving the lives of previous main characters with those of the new expertly, so you meet new friends and catch up on the old. – Amanda Killgore, Huntress Reviews

Henry VIII

I had started a post that was more of a ramble about productivity (and my feeling a lack of it), but was instead captivated by a video trailer for Showtime’s upcoming teleflick Henry VIII. It looks wow!

Click on the “Video” link in the menu along the bottom and watch both of them. I’m looking forward to this movie! (and being done with three deadlines by then! *g*)

The Black Dahlia

Um-kay… this was a head scratcher for our house. It was one of those movies where THE END appears and you sit there a moment or two in stunned silence trying to figure out WTF happened. Hubby said, “I was robbed. Out of two hours of my life.” *sigh*

I have no idea how well this story did in the theater or with critics, but for us it was just a series of random events that happened in a scatter shot fashion and then when it was all explained at the end we went, “Okay. But I don’t care because the whole time I was scratching my head going WTF?”

I thought the movie was going to be about two detectives and their investigation of the infamous Black Dahlia murder. It wasn’t. It was about a love triangle between the two detectives and one of the detective’s girlfriend. The Dahlia murder was just kinda there in the background. The act of investigating tied into the triangle, but not the actual murder or really the investigation itself.

Weird.

Thirteen #4

Thursday Thirteen

Thirteen Things I’m Looking Forward to in January
(in no particular order)

1.) Getting ARCs of ALLURING TALES

2.) Watching THE BLACK DAHLIA (I haven’t watched a movie in a long time and that’s the one presently rented from Blockbuster)

3.) Receiving my RITA box (You can see which books you’re getting if you login to the RWA site and check under “My Contest”)

4.) Finishing one of my incomplete, deadlined manuscripts

5.) Checking out the posters I had made for PLEASURES OF THE NIGHT (BTW, have you checked out the latest excerpt? It’s flash and very cool, IMHO. *g*)

6.) Having my kids go back to school. (that happened today! Yay! *g*)

7.) Getting our taxes out of the way. (we usually get money back, but this is the first year I had to pay quarterly taxes on my royalties, so we’ll see how that goes)

8.) Reading my RITA books. (It’s about the only time when I can read and not feel guilty. *g*)

9.) Sending my sister her birthday gift. I wish she was going to be home. I miss her. :(

10.) Receiving all the “greatest hits” albums I was suddenly in the mood to order today. (fodder for another TT!)

11.) Putting away the Christmas tree. (How sad is it that our tree is still up? *shakes head*)

12.) Buying new clothes for my trip to NY.

13.) Taking my kids to see a movie in the theater. Not sure which one yet. They’ll let me know when they figure it out. *g*

Out of Pocket

Sorry. I’m still buried and trying to dig up for some air. Today is the last day of winter break. I’ve been working until 3 am most nights this year, trying to get work in when it’s quiet in the house. Sucky thing about that is having your body clock out of whack. I’m nowhere near tired at 1 or 2 in the morning, and if I stay up past that while the kids are in school (and getting up early) I’ll be a zombie all day.

I should be getting out from under two biggy commitments today, though. My workload won’t ease up more than a smidge, but I might be able to cut back an hour or two a day so I can go to bed on time.

Hugs!

Winter Break

Is everyone else’s kids back in school already?

My kids are home until January 17th. 8O

They’re going stir crazy and I’m buried in work. I’m going nuts, I swear.

“Burton has an uncanny aptitude for intertwining the human and the paranormal so seamlessly that sudden demon attacks and labyrinthine underworlds are perfectly believable. Realistic dialogue, spicy bedroom scenes and a spitfire heroine make this one to pick up and savor.”—Publishers Weekly

“Creative, scary, sexy and fast paced. Jaci Burton delivers.” — Cherry Adair, New York Times bestselling author

“Exciting, intense. A ride you don’t want to miss. Burton has written a reality blast that will leave you breathless.” — Lora Leigh, USA Today Bestselling Author

Jaci rocks! I love her stories (and she’s an awesome gal all around). Once I can catch my breath, I’ll be enjoying this one straight through, just like I do all her books. :)
