It’s still a nightmare here in California, I’m very sorry to say. We are presently experiencing the largest evacuation in the state’s history.
Hubby stayed home from work again today because the freeway that takes him to work was in the line of fire. Our home is safe and will hopefully stay that way, but the state will be reeling from this for some time to come. San Diego county authorities have placed evacuation calls to almost 350,000 homes. I have no idea when this is going to end, but it’s seriously hell here now.
I wish it would rain. Instead, it was 90 degrees today. My heart goes out the firemen out there, fighting these fires in those heavy, hot suits. God bless them.

I’m in NJ and I’ve been hearing about the fires all over the news. It is so tragic and sad that so many people are losing their homes. I just heard 10 people have died after being smothered by rubble.
Just wanted to echo my hopes that everyone involved gets out of there. Several members of my family live in CA and for the moment, they are safe, but the smoke, and the ash in the air, is causing great problems (my nephew has asthma) but at least they are safe. My thoughts go out to anyone forced to deal with this disaster. I wish there was something I could do.
Hi Sylvia, glad to hear you and yours are safe. Watched the coverage last night. There are no words, except it’s as though fire tornado can describe the emotions and suffering as well as the phenomenon. May rain come quickly and douse all the fires, but not cause devastating mud slides.
my thoughts are with everyone out there
My heart goes out to all that are dealing with the fires. I hope the winds die down and that rain will come soon to help put the fires out.
Syl, this is such terrible news. The drought is bad enough, can’t even imagine having to leave your home and not knowing whether it will survive the fires. And praying for the firemen/rescue peoples safety. May rain be heading your way soon!! We’ve been having a drought here in KY, too…and finally it has rained for the last 3 days. We’re so grateful…and hoping the rain continues to move to the states that need it so desperately.
Hugs~
I used to live in LA and am so sorry to hear about the fires (although I CAN remember what it was like). I remember going to school and “Smoky the Bear” being a prominent poster all over the schoolyard and classrooms. Its so sad to see what is happening…
Thanks for the update, Sylvia. I will pray that the winds die down and that rain will fall in southern California.
Laura, that’s so sad about the reporter! I hadn’t heard about that.
What a tragedy. I am praying that the winds will die down very soon and loss to life/property is minimilized. The story I saw on CNN yesterday of the reporter who reported his own house burning to the ground brought tears to my eyes. Even though you could tell he was distraught, he had the right attitude- all his loved ones got out safe and sound.
I know, this is so awful. My co-worker Karen has been doing the Google Earth thing to show me how close the fires are to her brother’s house, and it is just plain scary. They evacuated Monday. It breaks my heart to see such devastation. Stay safe.
