What’s a favorite tradition for you on the holidays? Our holidays are really simple. The 23rd is my mother’s birthday. The 24th we get together with my in-laws for Christmas Eve dinner. Christmas Day we wear our pjs all day, play with our new toys, and eat leftovers. That’s pretty much it.
Maybe yours are just as simple? Or perhaps more elaborate?

Everything! It is the one time of year that ALL the family puts forth a consistent effort to be helpful, considerate, loving, and thoughtful…almost as if they can’t do it as much the rest of the year. I have to say that my family is pretty good throughout the year…but the holidays always bring out the best.

We all get together for dinner, which is usually a whole roasted pig (yes, the WHOLE pig), rice beans and all the fixings. We try (but don’t usually succeed) to wait until midnight and let the kids open up all their gifts from the family. We’re a huge bunch so its always tons of fun

On Christmas Eve we like to drive around and look at the light displays. Then we go home sit around the tree and sip hot cocoa or eggnog and listen to Christmas music.

We all gather at my oldest brother’s house on Christmas Eve for dinner and present exchanges. On Christmas we come and go at my parent’s house for visitations and a “Christmas picnic” as my mom has named it.

My holiday starts out with a tree trimming party at my house - which can be any day in December since I have to coordinate it with everyone. For the past 7 years my nephew and his wife have had a party on Christmas eve. After opening gifts we then have a brunch on Christmas day for a few relatives on my husband’s side. Then it was always Christmas Day at my mom’s but in the last few years it’s moved to my niece’s house (she has 7 kids and a large house lol).

On the 24th we spend the first part of the evening at my parents place, where all the relatives gather for tons of delicious foods. At 11pm we leave for my mother-in-laws where we attend midnight mass with her. Christmas morning we open presents, have lunch at my sister-in-laws, and supper at my parents and share presents at both places. Boxing Day is spent relaxing at the cottage

I have two favorites. Spending Christmas Eve with my husband…..having a nice dinner, watching movies and driving around looking at lights. I also love Christmas Day spent at my in-laws with the whole family.

Besides the gift exchange the adults do at our Christmas supper(eve or day) the ladies take time out to go to a room by themselves, after having done the meal, dishes, etc. and we exchange little gifts(homemade or otherwise) with each other. Each lady buys for all the ladies and so on. We make it simple and interesting and it’s a time for us.
