Under the Weather

As often happens to me after I finish a book, I’ve come down with a cold or the flu. I’m not sure which. I’m tired, achy, dizzy, coughing a lot, etc. etc. I’m miserable. I’ve stocked up on cold prevention medications, but I’ll still be feeling yucky for a few days at least.

So I’m crawling back into bed and sleeping. *fingers crossed* this thing goes away fast.

For eight hundred years Nicolas Montfaucon has dedicated his life to preventing the rebirth of an immortal evil. But now a terrible storm has assaulted unsuspecting New Orleans—and the beast walks the earth once more. “The Devourer” has been awakened, and there is only one in the besieged city who can help Nicolas defeat the foul creature—a mysterious and beautiful enigma who haunts the handsome Revenant’s erotic waking dreams and enflames his passionate obsessions.

Chessa Tomas is not an ordinary policewoman. A vampire, she works only at night, patrolling a seamy and unseen underworld of roiling chaos. Though Nicolas is sensuality incarnate, Chessa wants no part of him or his kind—but she cannot close her eyes to the unholy malevolence that would consume their world. And Nicolas has uncovered the secret lust that rules her—a steaming, uncontrollable desire he intends to unleash, bending Chessa to his will by making her most forbidden fantasies real.

Weddings Make Me Cry

And the one I attended on Saturday was no exception. It was lovely. Small, intimate, and wonderful all around. My daughter lost her first tooth at the reception and she was giddy. She’s been desperate to lose a tooth. LOL!

I hit Spring Cleaning mode last week and it’s carrying through to this week. The house falls apart when I’m deep into a book, and I need to get it back to order before I can begin the next one. I finished the downstairs last week. I hope to finish my room today. I started last night, after I returned home from Vegas, but quit when DEXTER came on. That show rocks! I’m hooked.

Since DON’T TEMPT ME is out for review so quickly on the heels of HEAT OF THE NIGHT I’m receiving mail about both. It’s interesting to me how many people like one or the other. It’s not that they dislike one genre, just that they far prefer one over the other, even when the author of both is the same. So some readers like the fantasies, but don’t love them. And some readers find that while they liked my historicals, they love the fantasies.

Next year, I launch two new fantasy series — one urban, the other a historical/futuristic, both in mass market — but I’ll also have a new historical out, too, in trade. Should be fun. :)

Here’s a snippet of the latest review for DON’T TEMPT ME:

“Suffice it to say, the plot in this story is tangled and filled with intrigue. Sylvia Day’s DON’T TEMPT ME is a sensual and sexual experience that will literally keep you on the edge of your seat. The characters are engaging and the passion is hot! This is an excellent choice for historical fans.”

What Happens in Vegas…

Las Vegas

…weddings!

A friend of mine is getting married tomorrow (Saturday) in Las Vegas. Not because she’s doing the quickie-wedding thing, but because she lives in Vegas. *g* I’ll head out there in the morning, since it’s a quick drive from Southern California.

Should be fun and I’m looking forward to it. :)

I hope your weekend is lovely, whatever you’re doing!

Winners

Hi all,

Sorry to be so late announcing a winner from the Valentine’s Day giveaway. My son has been sick with the cold, I had jury duty Friday, and I polished off a ms to send to my editor! Yay!! Much happy dancing going on over here.

Anyway, because of the delay, I told both of my children to pick a winner so I have two winners. Oddly enough, the numbers they chose have similar names. *g*

In other fun (for me) stuff, I received another review for DON’T TEMPT ME that I’m thrilled about:

RT Top PickDay crafts several intricate love stories (for a mother and twin daughters) that seamlessly slip from one scorching romance to another. Readers will devour every word of this daringly original, boldly sensual and brilliantly plotted book — and they’ll be breathless by its riveting conclusion.

DTM – Review

The Library Journal reviewed DON’T TEMPT ME. Here’s what they said:

Set against the backdrop of pre-Revolutionary France, this bold, erotic tale of passion and revenge features a cast of colorful characters and a complex and intriguing plot. It will appeal most to readers who like their romantic adventures fast paced and laced with earthy language and graphic sex.

Graphic sex. Moi?

All kidding aside, I’m thrilled with the review. A PASSION FOR HIM was one of those books that wipes an author out. I thought I was done. Finito. Stick a fork in me. Then I started writing DON’T TEMPT ME and it was the exact opposite. The words flowed and I loved Simon. I hope you all do, too.

Adventures

I’ve been called in for jury duty… again. Every year, without fail. Sometimes I serve, sometimes I’m dismissed. My kids have a four-day weekend, I just finished a book that I thought was going to kill me, and we get to celebrate it with a day in court. :( I also have guests coming in Friday night and I have the type of messy house a writer gets when they’ve been ass-in-chair for a while. Not that I’m bitching about our judicial system. We’re lucky to have the rights that we do. I’m just sayin’ the timing could be better.

Here’s an adventure for you that’s certain to be better than mine:
