A Familiar Kind of Magic - Reviews

The reader is treated to a fantastic blend of contemporary and paranormal novellas from veteran and newer authors. Each story read as a complete tale, and they all complemented each other well. There was no weak story in this collection; they were all just wonderful.

Though it was hard to choose a favorite story, Sylvia Day’s A Familiar Kind of Magic was a story I could not get out of my head.

For old fans and new readers alike, Alluring Tales: Awaken the Fantasy is a true delight!

– Cat N., Fallen Angels Reviews

A Familiar Kind of Magic is by Sylvia Day. This story is the crown jewel of the anthology. Ms. Day collared this reader with sensuous characters that had her purring and clawing for more. Ms. Day has proven time and time again that she has what it takes to write in any genre and do it with sexual precision and a killer pen!

Alluring Tales: Awaken the Fantasy is well worth a read and has enough heat to fire-up any erotic lover’s discerning tastes.

In Alluring Tales, publisher Avon Red brings together a number of talented authors to create an anthology that sizzles. The seven stories explore out-of-this-world erotic fantasies and cover a number of genres including science fiction, action adventure, and vampire stories. I really enjoyed six of the stories, but was disappointed by one of them. Despite this, I would still highly recommend this book based on the strength of six of the stories.

A Familiar Kind of Magic by Sylvia Day — This is my favourite story and I would even say this story makes it worth buying the book. The plot and back story was fully developed and the characters were wonderfully complex. The story was full of emotion and drama, and the love scenes are smoking hot. Day had created an unusual and interesting world that I would love to revisit in future stories.

– S. Khaw, The Road to Romance

WOW!! Awaken The Fantasy was an amazingly erotic book filled with lots of sex, interesting characters and {keep beating my heart} love. The seven Allure authors have developed a group of well-written and easy flowing stories. Sylvia Day’s story A Familiar Kind Of Magic just enthralled me. Ms. Day’s story was well-written and flowed beautifully. My favorite hero/heroine were Victoria St. John and Max Westin, from A Familiar Kind Of Magic. They were meant for each other, but did not know it. I was impressed by the anthology as a whole and am more than ever eager to read more Allure authors.

–Marcy Arbitman, Just Erotic Romance Reviews

Simply delightful is the best way to describe this tale. Sylvia Day brings out all the playfully fun things that make reading about familiars so much fun and adds a suspense element that’ll have you glued to the pages waiting to learn of Max and Victoria’s fate.

The Allure authors did a fantastic job compiling this anthology! All of these tales are vastly different, full of fascinating characters, hot sex, emotional situations, and witty dialogue. This is one of the few anthologies that I’ve read where I loved all of the stories. Each story flowed easily into the next one and I never felt like I had to stop reading before continuing onto the next author’s contribution. Wonderfully done ladies! I hope to see many more collaborative efforts in the future.

A Familiar Kind of Magic had me absolutely engrossed from the first paragraph. The way Sylvia gives life to both the human and animal aspects of Victoria is amazing and I really want to have the abilities Victoria has. Max is a very attractive mix of strength, dominance and sensitivity that makes him irresistible. With hot sex, some BDSM and a wonderful paranormal world, this story is hot!

Alluring Tales: Awaken the Fantasy was a terrific set of stories by some of my favorite authors that I would recommend to anyone who wants some great short stories in a variety of sub-genres with hot sex and very engaging characters.

Wow! Individually, each of the stories in the anthology Alluring Tales - Awaken the Fantasy more than sizzle, but united in one hot little book, they are downright combustible! The title promises alluring tales, and it definitely delivers!

With some anthologies, you find several stories you like or love, and maybe a story or two that aren’t quite up to par. It would be hard to find anyone who could say this about Alluring Tales - Awaken the Fantasy! Each story is just as good as the last one. I personally would be hard pressed to choose a favorite between them, and am very grateful I don’t have to!

With A Familiar Kind of Magic, Day proves a woman can find strength and power in letting go. Max proves himself as a gentle and sly Dominant when he sets out to tame Victoria, simultaneously empowering her and allowing her to unleash the needs she has subjugated for years.

- Jennifer, CK2S Kwips and Kritiques

If course for those who love paranormal adventures, Sylvia Day has the story of a familiar who is bucking the system, and the very handsome and dangerous warlock sent to bring her to heel. Domination and bondage have never been so much fun than when a strong-willed and independent cat named Victoria St. John decides to ignore the rules. When the High Council sends in its best hunter, Max Westin, to tame her, Victoria has only two choices, become the familiar she was born to be and be collared and owned, or maintain her freedom, and possibly be eliminated. To her, the freedom given to her by her former Master Warlock is a priceless jewel, and she has power the High Council has not an inkling about. Now we have a tug of war between Warlock and Familiar, but in this sensual game of Master and Familiar, there could possibly be two winners… Read A Familiar Kind of Magic by Sylvia Day and find out.

Aptly named, Alluring Tales ~ Awaken the Fantasy is a wonderful blend of well chosen stories from seven delightful and imaginative authors. The book has been carefully crafted, the stories all carry similar themes with very different tones. The Allure Ladies will thrill you with this anthology, for it is definitely a volume you will want to remain on your keeper shelf. Personally, I would recommend it to any and all who like that touch of danger, the shadow of darkness, and the lure forbidden thrills in your romances. It is not for the faint of heart, because the sex is steamy, the characters rich and vibrant, and it leaves you with the tingles which linger long after you put it down.

- Romance at Heart

A Familiar Kind of Magic is a wonderful story that is absolutely spell-binding. You will absolutely fall in love with these characters. Ms. Day did a terrific job with this story and it’s a real keeper.

This reviewer was sorry when she reached the last page of the book; you just want to read more. You really have to keep your eye on those authors, because they write great stories.

- Danny, Love Romances and More

Sylvia Day has a unique talent for writing totally seductive heroines, and her heroes are always the epitome of male perfection. Max and Victoria are no exception. They are sophisticated, attractive, intelligent characters, and their smooth seduction of each other is simply breathtaking.

The ALLURING TALES: AWAKEN THE FANTASY anthology is a dazzling mix of short stories; something for everyone. Sometimes multi-author anthologies fail to engage everyone. Not so with this anthology. The quality of authors and stories is a pleasant surprise, given the quantity. I do feel however, that if each and every one of the stories isn’t a hit with some readers, they won’t be disappointed, again because of the number of authors involved. I give this anthology a high recommendation and feel that readers will find themselves completely satisfied with it.

A Familiar Kind of Magic is a tale of warlocks and familiars locked in a battle of the sexes. The caring side of domination is highlighted in this steamy tale of emotional connection and finding love for a second time.

ALLURING TALES: Awaken the Fantasy is a collection of seven torrid stories, three of them paranormal. Strong characters, both male and female, link the tales together well. All are well told and complete vignette’s packed with emotional connections. These are all excellent examples of various short story genres and range from the timeless to the futuristic. Vampires, warlocks, gladiators, and shifters appear in the paranormals. ALLURING TALES: Awaken the Fantasy is a terrific, steamy, spring read.

- Jennell, RRTErotic

It is very rare that I find an anthology that doesn’t have at least one mediocre or dreadful story in it. But that isn’t the case with Alluring Tales. This seven story anthology features seven unique, erotic but uniformly delightful stories.

From the first story Cathryn Fox’s Lover’s Locket to the final one Vivi Anna’s Quick Silver, I was pulled into the settings of these beautifully written tales. It is rare to find such cohesive and complimentary voices in an anthology of this size. Each story, though not related when coupled with the author’s voice, transitioned smoothly into the next tale. Alluring Tales – Awaken the Fantasy is a stunning, emotional and erotic mix of short stories.

– Jayna Gardner, Romance Divas

These seven sexy stories, in a variety of genres, are nicely written–for whenever you need a quick, hot read.

- Romantic Times BOOKreviews

Alluring Tales is a fun mix of contemporary, futuristic and paranormal stories with authors who compliment each other. Due to so many stories in one book, they are all short and the sex happens fast. This worked for most of the stories, but there were one or two I’d have enjoyed more if there’d been more time for character development.

- Jacki, A Romance Review

Seven amazingly talented authors grab you by the imagination and take you for a ride in Alluring Tales. This anthology is a spectacular mélange of contemporary, paranormal, and futuristic tales filled with lots of heat, romance, and characters you will want to see again.
