Is Sylvia Day your real name?
Yes, it’s the name I was born with.Does your family read your work?
My mother enjoys the historicals and my husband enjoys the fantasy/paranormals. My father tried to read one, but said his face “was so red, it lit up the room”. I let him off the hook. *wink*Is there a personal significance to the koi images found around your website?
I’m a Pisces and a first-generation Japanese-American. The koi represents those two sides of me and adding those images to my website personalizes it, allowing me to share a bit more of myself with you.

The Dream Guardians® Series
When will you complete the Dream Guardians® series?
At this time, I don’t know. HarperCollins contracted the first two books in the series. When they offered to contract two more, we were unable to agree on the terms. As a career author I have to weigh business concerns as well as creative ones, so I had to put the series on the back burner. That said, I will finish the Dream Guardians® series! The characters are near and dear to my heart. But when and where, I can’t say at this time. Please sign up for my newsletter and I promise to let you know more as soon as I do. Thank you for your support and patience. I’m grateful for every one of the hundreds of letters I’ve received asking for Book #3.Will you be writing a story for Phillip Wager? Or did you really kill him off?
Ah, my friends, Phillip is too resilient to be taken down so easily! You’ll see him again, as the hero of Book #3.
What is the Renegade Angels trilogy?
The Renegade Angels trilogy is a dark and sexy paranormal romance series that debuted in October 2011. The trilogy chronicles the power struggles among angels, lycans, and vampires as they vie for supremacy. The first book, A Touch of Crimson, tells the story of Adrian, leader of the angels. The second book, A Hunger So Wild, tells the story of Elijah, leader of the lycans. The third book, A Taste of Seduction, tells the story of Syre, leader of the vampires. Will there be only three books in the series?
The Renegade Angels trilogy follows one main story arc divided over three books. Each book features a different romantic couple, but the plot develops over the course of each novel and will conclude with Book #3. That said, the Dominion fictional universe in which the Renegade Angels series is set is quite large and other stories/series take place there. There are standalone novellas scheduled for release around the three main books that pick up stories of some of the secondary characters. A Dark Kiss of Rapture follows Raze and it released at the same time as A Touch of Crimson. A Caress of Wings follows Siobhán and it’s scheduled to release sometime between A Touch of Crimson and A Hunger So Wild. It isn’t necessary to read the novellas to enjoy and/or understand the full-length titles, because the main plot thread of the trilogy isn’t advanced in the novellas.
When will the sequels to In The Flesh be released?
Presently, the publisher is focused on releasing my historical novels, so the second and third books of Sapphire and Wulf’s trilogy aren’t yet scheduled. I’ll update the Coming Soon page as soon as I know something definitive. I also recommend signing up for my newsletter to stay in-the-know!
Are there any full-length Shadow Stalkers novels planned?
I never say never, but–for now–the Shadow Stalkers are a series of novellas.
When will Deeper in You release?
We’re saying October 2012, but the publisher is eager to release the book so I wouldn’t rule out an earlier release date.Didn’t Bared to You have a different cover with a couple on it? What happened to that one?
The blue cover with a naked woman being embraced by a man was one I commissioned for the self-published edition of the story. When Berkley acquired the rights to publish the book, they chose to use a new cover that was less provocative and therefore easier to place with retailers. How many books will be in the series?
Three. You mention Seven Years to Sin when talking about Bared to You. How are the two connected?
They’re not connected anywhere but in my head. Seven Years to Sin is the story of two abuse survivors as well, but of a different nature. Jessica is the survivor of child abuse so vicious she bears physical scars and is deaf in one ear. Alistair was emotionally abused and turned to prostitution as a way to survive and establish value for himself. For numerous reasons, I wasn’t able to delve into the aftereffects of abuse as deeply as I would have liked, so I continued to think about Alistair and Jessica’s story after I finished it. That continuing thought process germinated into Gideon and Eva’s story.
Will you be writing a story for the Earl of Ware?
I’m always thinking about Ware in the back of my mind. I do think he’s about ready to fall in love. At least that’s what he’s saying.
Will there be more Marked series books?
God, I hope so! I love those books. However, I’m no longer working with Tor Books and my other publishers want me to focus on the stories and series we’ve already developed together. I will, however, utilize every opportunity to write novellas or short stories in the Marked world in the interim. Sign up for my newsletter to stay in-the-know. And check out my Renegade Angels trilogy, which is set in the same Dominion fictional universe and has some familiar faces.
Do you have more historical novels in the works?
Yes. I have no plans to stop writing historical romances. I love them too much. Will you be writing more about Hester and Michael (from Seven Years to Sin)?
I have to confess, I wasn’t planning on it. However, I’ve had so many reader requests for their story that I’ve decided I must write it. Not that I mind. I love both Hester and Michael. However, it’s difficult to write an entire love story for a couple for whom most of their romantic setup happened in another book. So I believe their tale will be a novella and I will write it for my readers, just as soon as I can.Who is the model on the trade paperback cover of The Stranger I Married?
Jack Hartnett. You may remember seeing him in the movie Hitch, which starred Will Smith and Eva Mendez. He played Tom Reda, brother-in-law to Eva’s character. Will you be writing a sequel to The Stranger I Married?
Presently, I’m not planning on it. I just don’t know where it would go. But that doesn’t mean it won’t happen. If there’s a particular character you’d like to see again, please let me know who it is.Is there an epilogue to The Stranger I Married?
Yes. Written at the request of readers, the bonus epilogue was included in the mass market reissue edition. However, you don’t have to buy the reissue to enjoy the epilogue. You can download it right here:
The Stranger I Married – Bonus Epilogue I hope you enjoy it!

Do you write full-time?
Yes, and I consider myself very fortunate that I can. (Thank you, dear readers!)Have all your books been erotic romance stories? Why do you think you’re drawn to that genre?
All my books do contain various levels of high sensuality. Some are erotic, some are erotica, some are simply sexy. (want to know the difference? Read my definitions here.) In my erotic stories, the pivotal turning points of the romance happen during the unguarded intimacy of lovemaking. Afterwards, the increased sexual tension between the characters as they struggle to stay emotionally distant while physically craving each other is powerful, and oftentimes heart wrenching. That’s where the joy of writing romance comes into play for me. Those moments in a love story are what make this job my dream career.
(I use the pseudonym S. J. Day to clearly delineate my non-romantic fiction works from my romances.)Is it difficult getting a book published?
Yes. That said, here is my advice for aspiring authors:- Keep writing. Finish multiple manuscripts.
- Never send out a work you’re not 100% certain is as good as it can possibly be at this point in your pursuit. (It will never be perfect; there is always room for improvement.) Don’t fall prey to impatience. You only get one chance to make a good first impression.
- Don’t take rejection personally. A manuscript that sells is simply a combination of the right book, at the right time, with the right editor.
- If an editor or agent offers you advice, listen!
- Don’t dismiss smaller publishing houses. Don’t spite yourself by narrowing your choices.
- Read. A lot. Look at what’s filling the bookshelves in your local bookstores. Look at what readers are clamoring for. Look at the type of books you enjoy reading. (You must be a reader to be a writer.)
- Write what’s in your heart, it’ll show in your work.
Will you read my story and give me your opinion/quote/critique?
I believe strongly in giving back to the writing community. Watching aspiring authors realize their dreams is a thrill for me, because I know how it feels. However, due to my writing schedule and travel demands, as well as legal considerations, I cannot give critiques. I do consider endorsement requests for contracted works on a case by case basis–given a reasonable amount of time to read the material. Going through my agent is the best way to ask.

Who is S.J. Day?
S. J. Day is the pseudonym for my non-romance genre works–-the books I write that don’t always have a Happily Ever After (HEA) romantic resolution at the end. I knew it was important to forewarn my romance fiction readers to alter their expectations; using a pseudonym was the best way to accomplish that.Do you write non-Marked series titles under the S.J. Day pseudonym?
Yes, I do, but they’re not published yet, so you haven’t missed anything.

Who is Livia Dare?
Livia Dare is a pseudonym that was created at the insistence of my publisher to be used on my Sapphire’s World trilogy. Technically, the trilogy is futuristic. However, because it has a strong historical feel to it, my editor wanted to be sure we didn’t give my historical readers “whiplash”.Do you write non-Sapphire’s World titles under the Livia Dare pseudonym?
The Livia Dare name is used only on the Sapphire’s World trilogy.
